Every now and then I would find myself in a situation in which I either wanted to send someone a bunch of files or someone had files they wanted to send me but for different reasons, we weren't able to accomplish this using the cloud storage providers we were subscribed to, nor were the people involved technically savvy enough to warrant exploring alternate means. Resolution often came in the form of temporarily increasing the quota on one of our cloud storage providers or by using one of the established file transfer services. Above a certain file size, the process for the latter can be summarised as creating an account (new users), subscribing to their service (monthly subscription), using the service, unsubscribing from their service, deleting the account (optional). More often than not, the time between subscribing to and unsubscribing from their service was a matter of days, with the remaining subscription period going unused. The same can be said for the allowed storage quota which was mostly far from being exhausted for the files transferred. While this subscription model makes a lot of sense for certain use cases, there are use cases such as this one for which a pay-per-use pricing model is a better fit from a consumer's point of view. This belief led me to develop TransferRocket, a solution designed to best facilitate these irregular one-off file transfers.
