Project Food is an app that helps you eat 30 different plants a week. After you've eaten, open the app and tap the plants that were on your plate. Each new plant becomes a card, and the week counts towards 30 different plants. It takes about a minute a day, on your own or with everyone at your table. No clean plate required: a lick counts.
The app is built around tasting rather than finishing. The guideline comes from the American Gut Project (2018), which found that adults eating more than 30 different plants a week had more varied gut flora. Variety counts, not amounts. For families with children, most kids need 8 to 15 tastes of a new food before they accept it, and the app tracks those tastes without pressure to eat up. Every new plant becomes a card with a picture, a fact for the table and a tip for the cook. Cards level up at 1, 5 and 10 tastes. The catalogue covers 224 plants, including fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains and ferments. Coffee counts, potato counts, and ketchup counts as tomato.
Each plant is counted once a week. One adult account per household covers everyone at the table: children tap with you or on their own, and their names stay inside your account. Achievements in bronze, silver, gold and platinum mark what the table achieved together. The app also includes learn pages with honest advice on why children refuse new foods and what works at the table. Project Food is available now on Google Play for Android, with an iPhone version following soon. There are no child accounts and no ads.
