how's this actually different from macwhisper day to day? both run local so it's not a privacy thing - is it that vtt is live dictation anywhere vs macwhisper being more file transcription

Hey Fazier! I built VTT because built-in Mac dictation kept mishearing my accent, and the good alternatives either uploaded my audio to the cloud or locked me into a subscription. VTT runs fully on-device by default (no account, no telemetry), but lets you bring your own API key for Deepgram, OpenAI, or ElevenLabs when you want top accuracy on accented speech. The floating bar never steals focus, so your words just appear at your cursor in any app. Free to start — would love feedback on the per-language engine routing.
