Tired of cluttered chess sites? SuperChess is a minimalist, production-ready platform built to prove that web-based gaming can be both beautiful and highly performant.
SuperChess is a lightweight yet powerful web-based chess app. It features global matchmaking, private rooms for friends, and integrated Stockfish AI for practice. Built with a focus on performance and minimalist design, it offers server-validated moves and real-time clock synchronisation for a fair, competitive experience directly in your browser.

Hello All! I’m Raj, and SuperChess is a project born out of a simple question: Can I take one of the world's oldest games and build a modern, production-grade version of it entirely on my own? As a developer, I wanted to move beyond "todo apps" and dive into the deep end of real-time synchronisation. Chess turned out to be the ultimate challenge. I spent countless hours obsessing over the "invisible" details—making sure moves validate in milliseconds, ensuring the clock never drifts, and building a backend on Oracle Cloud that could actually handle the memory demands of Stockfish AI. Why I’m excited about it: - Minimalism by Design: I wanted a UI that felt cinematic and clean, stripping away the clutter found on traditional chess sites. - The Technical Journey: Moving from simple local state to a full Spring Boot and WebSocket architecture was a massive learning curve for me. - Play Anywhere: No apps, no bloat—just open a tab and play. This is a milestone in my journey as a developer, and I’m so stoked to finally share it. Whether you’re here to play a quick Blitz game or just want to chat about the tech stack, I’d love to hear your feedback! See you on the board! ♟️
