Shard Tools is a collection of 285+ free browser-based utilities for PDFs, images, developer data, text, documents, and everyday calculations. Every supported tool runs entirely client-side — files are processed on your device and never uploaded to a server, which you can verify yourself by watching the Network tab in DevTools while using any tool. Built and maintained by Roshan, it's aimed at anyone who needs a quick, exact result (resize an image to a specific size, compress a PDF under a size limit, format JSON, run a calculation) without creating an account or trusting a third-party server with private files.
- 285+ tools across PDF, image, developer/data, text, document, calculator, generator, and photo-specification categories
- 100% client-side processing for supported file tools — nothing uploaded, verifiable via browser DevTools
- No account or sign-up required
- Exact-target tools (compress to a specific KB size, resize to exact pixel dimensions) rather than generic converters
- Free to use
- Resizing or compressing an image or PDF to meet an exact size requirement (application forms, upload limits)
- Formatting, validating, or converting structured data (JSON, CSV, YAML, XML) without pasting it into a third-party server
- Quick calculators for everyday tasks (BMI, break-even, brick/material estimates, unit conversions)
- Passport and visa photo sizing for specific countries
- One-off document conversions (DOCX to text, PDF to Markdown) without installing software

I built Shard Tools because I kept running into the same annoyance: needing to resize a photo or compress a PDF for some form, and the only options being sites that make you upload the file to a server you know nothing about. For most of these tasks there's no real reason the file needs to leave your device at all — modern browsers can do the resizing, compressing, and formatting themselves. So that's what this is: 285+ tools that all run client-side. Nothing gets uploaded — you can check yourself by opening DevTools' Network tab while using any tool and watching nothing fire. Started building it in 2025, and it's grown one tool at a time based on the specific, narrow things people actually search for (an exact pixel size, an exact file-size limit, a specific country's passport photo spec) rather than trying to be a generic "do everything" converter. Happy to answer anything about how it's built or take requests for tools that are missing.
