Reel

A portable 4-track recorder for your iPhone

Visit

Reel is a portable 4-track field recorder for iPhone with the feel of a real tape machine.

Record clean 32-bit float audio up to 96kHz from the built-in mic or any class-compliant USB gear plugged straight in: a groovebox, a synth, an audio interface, the OP-1 Field, an SP-404 or Elektron boxes. No computer, no setup screens.

The centre of the app is a disc you actually touch. Scrub, nudge and scratch takes with your finger. Overdub across four tracks, loop a section, bend pitch and speed with varispeed, then mix and share as WAV, AIFF or M4A.

Built for dawless jams, band and songwriter demos, digitizing records and field recording. One-time purchase, no subscription. iPhone, iOS 18 and up.

Building Reel: a 4-track portable field ...

Hi, Tug here. I made Reel. I kept grabbing my phone to capture ideas off my hardware and hating the options. Voice memos flatten everything to one track. The DAW apps want a whole session before you can hit record. I missed the feel of an old 4-track. Plug in, commit, move on. So Reel is built around that. Four tracks, clean 32-bit float capture, and a spinning disc you scrub with your finger instead of dragging a tiny waveform. Plug any class-compliant USB gear straight into your iPhone and it just records. Grooveboxes, synths, interfaces, OP-1 Field, SP-404, Elektron. It is deliberately not a DAW. No endless tracks, no undo pile to hide behind. The limits push you to finish something. One-time $14.99, no subscription, iPhone only for now. Would love to hear what you record with it.
