Purrlyne is the version I wanted: type an interest (optional), hit Next, talk to someone new. Or skip the 1-on-1 entirely and hang out in a themed public room. Interest-based matching is the right fix for the random-chat dropoff problem. Two questions: how do you verify the interests people claim (self-reported tags tend to drift), and is there any moderation layer for the matching itself? Safety is usually what kills these products.

This actually looks fun. One thing I'm curious about: how do you handle the cold-start problem when someone enters a niche interest but there aren't enough matching users online? Do you gradually broaden the match, keep them waiting or fall back to random matching?

The interest-matching angle beats pure randomness for conversation quality. Most chat apps just throw people together and hope; matching on actual interests means you skip the awkward "so what do you do" phase and jump straight to conversation that matters to both people. The friction cost of finding someone worth talking to usually kills the conversation before it starts - most people won't swipe 50 times for one good chat. If this actually surfaces compatible people quickly, it solves the real problem that makes most stranger-chat apps feel hollow.
