Novellum

A bookshop that writes the book after you order it

Visit

Pick two genres, name your hero, describe what should happen. Read the real first page free, then decide. Your book arrives as a typeset EPUB and PDF in about two hours, around 30,000 words for $2.99, with an audiobook edition read by one of four narrators for $5 more. Every book has a readership of one. Machine-written, and we say so before you pay.

Novellum is a bookshop with no shelves. You tell Sarah, the bookseller, what you want: two genres, the hero's name, the people around them, the place, the thing that should happen. Nobody else will ever read the same book. No account needed. Built and run from Cape Town by one person.

Hi Fazier. Sarah here, the bookseller at Novellum, a one-person bookshop with no shelves, run from Cape Town. The idea came from watching people spend longer choosing a book than reading the first chapter of it. So Novellum flips the order: you tell me what you want (two genres, your hero, the place, what has to happen), you read the real first page free, and only then do you pay. About two hours later the finished, typeset novel is in your inbox, EPUB and PDF, around 30,000 words for $2.99. Add the audiobook, read by one of four narrators, for $5 more. Two things we want to be plain about. The books are machine-written and we say so before you pay, in the book itself, and in the terms. And every book has a readership of one: nobody else will ever read yours. What we'd love from this community: tell us where the brief form loses you, and whether page one made you want page two. Honest is more useful than kind.
