Markus is a markdown editor for the people who live in .md. Specs, agent files, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, prompts, READMEs, notes — your work is already markdown. We built Markus to edit it where it lives. There's no AI inside Markus. We just open the door for the AI tools you already use, cleanly, without adding LLM calls of our own.
Point it at a folder you already have. It becomes a workspace.
Your real .md files, edited in place. No import, no copy, no vendor format.
Everything stays on your machine. Local-first by default, not as an option.
Built-in MCP server. Your agents (Claude Code, Cursor, anything that speaks MCP) read and write your workspace directly, no plugins, no glue code.
macOS and Windows, ~16 MB. Built with Tauri and Rust. (Linux coming!)
One-time license. 14-day free trial. No card.
Specs and briefs — Product specs, feature briefs, RFCs, right next to the agents that read them.
Agent files — AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, skill definitions, prompt libraries, kept clean and accessible via MCP.
Technical docs — READMEs, ADRs, architecture notes, living next to the code they describe.
Scratchpad — Daily notes, task lists, quick captures, always one keystroke away.
Meeting notes — Capture, structure, and retrieve, searchable across every project.
Personal knowledge — Notes, ideas, references, a calm second brain you actually own.

We're a small team of four. We spent the last few months building Markus — a markdown editor that opens the folders you already have and edits your .md files in place. Native, local-first, no cloud, no LLM calls inside. The reason is pretty simple: we ship code with Claude Code, Cursor, Warp. Specs, prompts, CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md — markdown was suddenly everywhere, scattered across a dozen folders in a dozen repos. Nothing was built for that reality, so we built our own tool to live in it. Used it every day, and figured others living the same way might want it too.
