DeskSprite is a free desktop pet app for Windows and macOS
DeskSprite is a desktop pet: a small animated character that lives
directly on your screen, in a transparent always-on-top layer. It
answers when you click it, looks up when your cursor comes close, and
stays quiet while you work. It runs on Windows 10/11 and macOS 12+.
What makes DeskSprite different is the AI pet maker. Upload 1-3
photos of your own cat, dog — or any character you like — and the AI
generates a full set of action clips: idle, playful, cursor-reactive,
walking. Your pet's real face, fur color and markings are kept
intact. Every clip is automatically matted and packaged, then dropped
into the app under My Pets. One click and your pet moves onto your
desktop.
Beyond the maker, DeskSprite is a full desktop pet app: a pet shop
with more companions to adopt, interactions you can configure, and a
built-in Pomodoro focus timer your pet respects — it naps until the
bell rings.

Hi everyone, I'm the maker of DeskSprite 👋 The idea came from a very specific frustration: I wanted a little animated version of my own cat living on my desktop — and found out the only ways to get one were commissioning an artist ($60–90 and weeks of waiting) or spending a weekend learning sprite tools. It felt wrong that the pet already sitting in my camera roll couldn't just take the spot. So we built DeskSprite. It's a free desktop pet app: your pet reacts to clicks, notices your cursor, naps quietly while you focus. And the part we're proudest of is the AI pet maker — upload 1–3 photos of your cat or dog, and it generates a full set of action clips that keep the real face, fur color and markings. One click, and your pet moves onto your desktop. Fun behind-the-scenes fact: the hardest part wasn't generating the animations — it was keeping the pet looking like YOUR pet instead of a generic lookalike.
