Curated

Software with clear pricing, easy exit, and exportable data

Visit

Curated was created to make choosing software simpler and more predictable. As subscription models became the norm, pricing structures grew more complex, cancellation processes less straightforward, and data portability harder to evaluate.

What began as a personal effort to identify tools that treated users fairly evolved into a structured review process with clearly defined criteria. Each product listed on Curated is evaluated manually against standards focused on transparent pricing, easy cancellation, exportable data, and fair long-term treatment of customers.

The goal is not to rank features or declare winners, but to remove a layer of uncertainty so users can focus on whether a tool actually solves their problem.

Features

1. Manually reviewed software directory

Every tool listed on Curated is evaluated manually rather than automatically aggregated. Each product is assessed against a consistent set of fairness criteria focused on how companies treat users.

2. Fairness-based evaluation framework

Curated evaluates tools using a structured standard that covers:

  • Transparent pricing
  • Easy cancellation
  • Data ownership and exportability
  • Fair treatment of existing customers

This framework allows users to quickly understand whether a product follows fair software practices.

3. Detailed tool reviews

Each listed tool includes a structured review showing how it performs against the Curated standard. Users can see which criteria a product meets and where it falls short.

4. Alternative recommendations

If a product does not meet the Curated standard, Curated suggests alternative tools that do meet the criteria, helping users discover fairer options.

5. Transparent evaluation methodology

The full evaluation framework is publicly available so users and companies can understand exactly how products are assessed.

6. Community verification

Users can report changes, policy updates, or practices that no longer meet the criteria, helping keep the directory accurate over time.

7. Open and privacy-friendly tools

Curated highlights software that respects user data and often surfaces open-source or privacy-conscious tools when they meet the criteria.

Use Cases

Reduce vendor lock-in risk

By highlighting exportability and cancellation policies, Curated helps users avoid tools that are difficult to leave.

Support ethical software companies

Users can discover and support companies that build sustainable businesses without relying on manipulative growth tactics.

Comments

We built Curated because we kept running into software with confusing pricing, difficult cancellation, or hidden lock-in. The goal is to manually review tools and highlight ones that treat users fairly. It’s still early and the directory is small, so feedback and suggestions are very welcome!
