Cozy

Your journal, yours to keep

Visit

Cozy is a local-first journaling app for people who want a private place to write. Every entry is saved as a plain Markdown file in an ordinary folder on your own Mac or Windows PC. Your words stay yours: no mystery cloud, no server syncing your 2 a.m. confessions, nothing ever fed to train AI. You can drop in photos, audio, and video, tag entries, pin where you wrote them, and build your own trackers for moods or habits. A full-screen writing mode with soft soundscapes (rain on a window, a forest, the clatter of a café, a fireplace popping) gives you a quiet corner to focus. Look back through a calendar, or a map of the places you wrote. Write in any language, and import your history from Notion, Day One, Obsidian, or Bear so you're not staring at a blank folder on day one. Cozy is a one-time $35 purchase, no subscription. One license covers every Mac and Windows device you own, and updates are free.

Local-first with plain Markdown files is the right call for a journaling app. One-time $35 with free updates is a pricing model more software should adopt — no subscription anxiety, just own it and write.

mind blowing product i'll must try this

One-time purchase, local Markdown files, no cloud - this is refreshing. Most journaling apps lock your own writing behind a subscription. The ambient soundscapes in full-screen mode is a nice detail. Does it support custom folders structure, or is it one flat folder?

so if your hard drive is gone, everything is gone?

The local-first + plain Markdown combo is underrated, means your journal is actually portable forever, not trapped in a proprietary format. How does the map view handle entries written at the same location repeatedly, does it stack them or just show the latest?
