Avycast

About

Avycast aggregates official avalanche bulletins from around 30 regional warning services in 21 countries - across the Alps, Scandinavia, Scotland, Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Japan, North and South America and New Zealand - and normalizes them into one consistent format. Every forecast shows the danger level on the standard EAWS 1-5 scale per elevation band (above treeline, treeline, below treeline), the avalanche problems with their affected aspects and elevations on a compass rose, and the full forecast narrative - highlights, avalanche activity, snowpack analysis - with a link back to the original bulletin from the issuing service. Bulletins are translated into 12 languages in the iOS app and 6 on the public web forecast site. The translation is faithful: the forecaster's text is translated, never summarised or rewritten. The app finds the nearest region by geolocation and includes a Slope Evaluator for terrain-based risk assessment. The public forecast website is free to read; the app is freemium. Avycast is an aggregator, not a warning service. Every forecast links back to the official source, which remains authoritative.
